Description of Clamping Screws for Engineers
➡To [Description of Mechanical Components for Engineers]
What are clamping screws?
Clamping screws are mechanical elements which use screw thrust for workpiece fixing and positioning. Full ball point contact securely fixes the workpiece. Clamping screws include several varieties of ball tip shapes and materials, which can be selected according to the application. Additionally, hex socket head cap screw type clamping bolts have functions similar to clamping screws.
Advantages of using clamping screws
By replacing hex socket head cap screws and hex socket set screws with clamping screws or clamping bolts when clamping (fixing) workpieces, point contact with workpieces can be achieved. This effectively transmits force to the workpiece and keeps the clamp secure.
Also, hex socket head cap screw type clamping bolts have functions similar to clamping screws.
Usage examples of clamping screws
For workpiece fixing.
For tool fixing.
Less time and trouble spent on manufacturing workpiece fixing jigs and maintenance
When fixing the workpiece by clamping its inclined surface, the jig body must be machined to match the workpiece shape. However, with clamping screws, the jig body just needs screw threading. Jig body shapes can be made more simple. In addition, if the workpiece contact surface wears, just replace the clamping screw. The time and trouble of maintenance is reduced.
Types and features of clamping screws
There are several varieties of shapes and materials, which can be selected according to the application.
Ball Material
There are 5 ball tip material types.
Material | Hardness | Characteristics |
---|---|---|
Steel | 55-60HRC | Excellent cost effectiveness. |
Stainless Steel | 55-60HRC | Excellent corrosion and heat resistance. |
Polyacetal | 94HRM | Avoids damaging workpieces. |
Brass | 75-125HV | Avoids damaging workpieces. |
Ceramic | 1100HV | Excellent wear resistance from electrical insulating properties. |

Additional Service
To make clamping screws compatible with a wider range of applications, various additional modification services are available as standard. Orders can be prepared within a short period of time.
Screw Combination
Lever and knob female thread products are adhered to screws with anaerobic glue, and then fixed with pins.
Vibration Resistance
Anti-loosening treatments for screws are available. These are beneficial for applications requiring anti-loosening screw operations or sealing. Our anti-loosening treatments save you the trouble of applying adhesive or sealing tape.
Cleanroom Services
We can wash and pack your products in a cleanroom. This is suggested for products used in FPD production devices, semiconductor manufacturing devices, medical equipment, food and beverage machinery and even products that will be used in cleanrooms.
Special Products
We also produce products of special specifications, e.g. nominal diameter of thread, length and surface treatment.
